"With its epic views and exceptionally friendly people Scotland is a roadtrip must. There's a freedom you feel when riding through its rugged terrain that's like no other."
– Vicky, @vickies_notebook

There’s something about Scotland’s wild beauty that makes every ride feel less like a route and more like a story. Vicky has been on two wheels for five years now, and since moving to Scotland with her Triumph Street Twin (a.k.a. Purdy), she’s been exploring some of the country’s most jaw-dropping routes. For this day trip, she takes us from Blairgowrie to just outside Tobermory, dotted with plenty of coffee stops, scenic views, and biker-friendly moments along the way.
Backwater Dam
The journey begins at Backwater Dam, a local landmark that supplies drinking water to over 300,000 people. Beyond the history, it’s a stunning spot that always seems to attract fellow riders. “Its views catch your attention through its engineering and its beauty,” Vicky says.
Glen Shee
From here, she heads along the B951 toward Spittal of Glen Shee. Think quiet villages, farmland, and wide-open views. A quick hydration break reveals mysterious stone circles (Outlander fans, you’ll get the reference).
Soon enough, it’s on to Tea@theShee, a well-known biker stop at the Glen Shee Ski Centre. “The staff are so friendly to everyone which creates a fully chilled atmosphere,” she says. It’s the kind of place where bikers swap stories over coffee with epic mountains in the background.
Braemar
Next up: Braemar. This little town is full of character. Think tartan shops, cozy cafés, and locals proud of their Scottish heritage. A practical note from Vicky: this is also one of the few spots with a petrol station, so it’s worth topping up before heading deeper into the Highlands.
Roads That Stay With You

Back on the bike, the fun really begins. The Old Military Road (A93) offers endless bends and sweeping views. Before long, the climb up the A939 to Tomintoul makes you feel like you’re riding through the clouds.
There’s even time for an ice cream stop at Good Ross and Brand, because that’s basically a rule for motorcyclists .
Although Vicky had to cut this trip short before reaching Aviemore, she still counts it as one of her favorite day rides. “If you liked this journey there are so many more amazing places in Scotland,” she says.
Riding with Hightail
Of course, no Scottish adventure would be complete without her trusty Hightail. “Taking off I make sure my hair is fully in my Hightail and set off on my journey.” With hours of bends, climbs, and winds ahead, it’s one less thing to worry about so she can stay focused on the ride.
