Rider Feature: Franco | Region: Southern California | Ride Community: Beachside Moto Club (BMC)

This month we’re heading to the golden hills and canyon-carving highways of Southern California, where local rider Franco spends his weekends chasing curves, community, and California sunsets.

As a rider who's put serious miles on his bike — and on his trusted Hightail setup — Franco knows SoCal’s hidden gems and iconic stops better than most.

If you’re thinking about riding in Southern California, renting a bike, or just want to dream a little, Franco’s got the inside line for you.

Must-Ride Roads: Glendora Mountain Road (GMR) & Angeles Crest Highway (ACH)

Less than an hour outside the hustle of Los Angeles, Glendora Mountain Road and the Angeles Crest Highway open up a rider’s paradise of flowing curves, elevation changes, and wide mountain views. These routes are legendary among local motorcyclists for good reason.

Franco recommends packing light, planning your stops, and giving yourself time to pull over at scenic overlooks along the way. A few deep breaths high in the mountains, your helmet sitting beside you, and your bike silhouetted against the skyline—that’s the kind of SoCal moment you don’t forget.

Find Your People: Riding with Beachside Moto Club (BMC)

Franco’s not just riding solo—he’s a Co-Founder of an amazing local community.

The Beachside Moto Club (BMC) is a laid-back, welcoming group that hosts monthly rides around Los Angeles. Each event kicks off with coffee and casual conversation, then hits the road for a scenic route that wraps with a meal and a hangout.

What makes BMC stand out? The structure. With lead riders, mid-pack support, and sweepers at the back, every rider—no matter their skill level—feels looked after and part of the flow. Whether you’re new to riding or have thousands of miles under your belt, you’ll find a place at the table (or in the saddle) with BMC.

Franco’s rides with BMC are often a highlight of his month—and we love seeing him rep Hightail gear while building those unforgettable moto memories.

Mulholland Highway Magic

No guide to SoCal riding is complete without mentioning Mulholland Highway. Winding through the Santa Monica Mountains, Mulholland offers some of the most iconic views around. As you ride, you'll catch glimpses of the Downtown LA skyline, Universal Studios, and the sprawling San Gabriel Valley—each turn offering a new perspective.

Franco suggests taking your time here. There are plenty of places to pull off, snap a few photos, and simply soak it all in. Some days you’ll ride through misty mornings; others, you’ll chase the setting sun across the ridges. Either way, it’s pure magic on two wheels.

Fuel for the Journey: Franco’s Favorite Stops

A great ride deserves great food—and SoCal has no shortage of biker-friendly hangouts. Franco's go-to spots include:

  • Newcomb’s Ranch (Angeles Crest) – Classic for good reason. Riders have been meeting here for generations.
  • The Rock Store (Mulholland) – Burgers, cold drinks, and a parking lot full of bikes and stories.
    • Bike Shed Los Angeles – Part restaurant, part community space, all about two wheels. A must-visit for any rider.
    • Roland Sands Design – Where custom bike artistry meets SoCal cool.
    • Off Track and AETHER – Hybrid spaces that blend moto culture, apparel, and regular group rides.

    Final Thoughts

Southern California offers the kind of riding dreams are made of: canyons, coastlines, cool communities, and endless sunshine. Riders like Franco embody everything we love about the moto life—adventure, connection, and a little bit of rebellion.

Whether you’re a local or planning your next getaway, grab your gear (don’t forget your Hightail!) and hit the road. We’ll see you out there.
